Persephone’s Journey depicts the Greek myth of Persephone, the Goddess of Spring, who is taken to the underworld by Hades, causing her mother Demeter’s grief to bring about the barren seasons. After being tricked into eating pomegranate seeds, Persephone must divide her time between the underworld and the earth, creating the cycle of seasons. The music follows her descent, the darkness below, and her hopeful return to spring. Commissioned by the Yorktown High School Orchestra and Director Laura Wallace for the 2025 VMEA Conference, it is dedicated to the inspiring Yorktown musicians who brought it to life.
